Prices of rice, some other essentials decline marginally

The prices of rice, egg, ginger, garlic, lentil and seasonal vegetables dropped slightly while those of fish and onion went upward last week, according to sources at different city markets.
Minicate rice was selling at Tk 38 per kg, Tk 2 down from previous week's Tk 40 and Nazirshail at Tk 30 to Tk 40 down from Tk 40 to Tk 48 per kg.
Course rice was selling at Tk 30 to Tk 32, BR-28 at Tk 28, Pari at Tk 30. Sharna was steady at Tk 28. However, IRRI was a bit dearer selling at Tk 28 per kg on an average.
Prices of local ginger decreased in the kitchen market last week. The local variety was selling at Tk 90 down from Tk 120 per kg last week while the imported variety was selling at Tk 80 per kg down from Tk 95 per kg.
Price of non-brand sugar decreased and it was selling at Tk 50-52 per kg while branded sugar was priced at Tk 58 to Tk 60 up from Tk 56 a kg at the retail level in the capital.
The local garlic was selling at Tk 110 down from Tk 140 per kg and the imported variety at Tk 100 from Tk 120 per kg last week.
The price of Rupchanda brand edible oil in five-litre can declined by Tk 5 and was selling at Tk 450, Teer at Tk 445 and Dada was steady at Tk 430 on an average last week.
Non-brand edible oils such as palm oil, super palm and soybean were selling at Tk 65 to Tk 90 which sold at Tk 74-Tk 86 per litre in the previous week.
The price of local lentil declined to Tk 120 per kg. The imported Indian, Nepalese and Turkish varieties remained steady at Tk 100-Tk 120 per kg.
The price of both local and imported onion increased in the city markets. The local variety was selling at Tk 34 per kg against the earlier price of Tk 30 per kg and the imported Indian variety was at Tk 35 which was Tk 28 per kg last week.
Fresh potato was steady and selling at Tk 16 per kg on an average last week.
The price of every four red farm eggs was Tk 24 down from Tk 30 while the white ones were selling at Tk 23 and local eggs declined to Tk 28.
Prices of fish witnessed an upward trend due to short supply, sources said.
A pair of medium-size Hilsha fish was selling at Tk 800-Tk 900.
Shrimp was selling at Tk 350 to Tk 800 against previous week's Tk 400-Tk 450 per kg and Pangas at Tk 80 per kg down from Tk 120 per kg.
However, 'Katla' was down at Tk 180, 'Poya' up to Tk 220 , 'Boal' Tk 500 per kg. 'Kachki' and 'Telapia' were selling at Tk 120 to Tk 180 against the earlier prices of Tk 80-Tk 100 per kg. 'Puti' was selling at Tk 100 a kg, 'Tangra' increased to Tk 250 a kg on an average.
Prices of all vegetable items witnessed a down trend in the city's kitchen markets.
Carrot was selling at Tk 12 per kg, green chili at Tk 16-Tk 20 per kg, brinjal at Tk 16, 'Khirai', a variety of small cucumber, at Tk 12-16, papaya at Tk 10-Tk 12, bean at Tk 16, bitter gourd at Tk 28 to Tk 30 per kg, a cauliflower at Tk 5-Tk 10, a cabbage at Tk 10 to Tk 15 and a medium-size gourd at Tk 15-Tk 20.
