Prices of rice, sugar, onion up, fish, vegetables steady

Prices of rice, onion, sugar and poultry bird went up while oil, fish and vegetables remained steady last week, according to sources at different city markets.
The Minicate variety of rice was selling at Tk 42 per kg, up from Tk 38-Tk 40 per kg. The Nazirshail variety of rice was priced at Tk 38 to Tk 48 per kg, up from Tk 36 to Tk 46 of the previous week.
Course rice including BR-28 rose to Tk 37 per kg from the earlier price of Tk 35-Tk 36, Pari to Tk 32 from Tk 30- Tk 31 per kg.
However, Swarna and IRRI were steady at Tk 28 per kg.
The prices of both local and imported onion increased in the city markets. The local variety was selling at Tk 34 per kg against the earlier price of Tk 32 and the imported Indian variety at Tk 30 per kg against Tk 28.
Prices of both brand and non-brand sugar increased at the retail level. Non-brand sugar was selling at Tk 52-53 per kg, up from Tk 50-Tk 52 while the sugar with brand name was priced at Tk 58 to Tk 62, up from Tk 58 a kg in the capital.
Prices of local ginger were steady in the kitchen market last week. The local variety was selling at Tk 100 per kg and the imported variety Tk 90 per kg.
The local garlic was selling at Tk 120 per kg and the imported variety Tk 110 per kg.
The price of the Rupchanda brand edible oil in five-litre can was steady at Tk 450, Teer Tk 445 and Dada Tk 430 on an average last week.
Non-brand edible oil such as palm oil, super palm and soybean was selling at Tk 85 to Tk 90 per litre.
The price of local lentil was steady at Tk 120 per kg and the imported Indian, Nepalese and Turkish varieties at Tk 90-Tk 100 per kg.
Fresh potato was selling at Tk 10- Tk 12 per kg last week, down from Tk 16 per kg on an average.
The price of every four red farm-eggs was Tk 25 while the white eggs were selling at Tk 23 and local eggs Tk 30.
Prices of fish witnessed the same trend in the city's kitchen market, sources said.
A pair of medium-size Hilsha fish was selling at Tk 800-Tk 900.
Shrimp was selling at Tk 350 to Tk 800 against the previous week's Tk 400-Tk 450 per kg and Pangas Tk 80-Tk 100 per kg.
'Katla' was selling at Tk 180, 'Poya' Tk 220 and 'Boal' Tk 500 per kg. 'Kachki' and 'Telapia' were selling at Tk 120 to Tk 180 per kg. 'Puti' was selling at Tk 100 and 'Tangra' Tk 250 a kg on an average.
Prices of all vegetable items also witnessed the same trend in the city's kitchen markets.
Carrot was selling at Tk 12 per kg, green chili Tk 16-Tk 20, brinjal Tk 16, 'Khirai', a variety of small cucumber, Tk 12-16, papaya Tk 10-Tk 12, bean Tk 16, bitter gourd Tk 28 to Tk 30 per kg, a cauliflower Tk 5-Tk 10, a cabbage Tk 10 to Tk 15 and a medium-size gourd Tk 15-Tk 20.
The prices of poultry birds rose to Tk 135, from Tk 120 per kg of a week ago. But the prices of beef and mutton were steady at Tk 230 and Tk 380-Tk 400 a kg in the city's retail outlets.
