Prices of rice, vegetables down

Prices of rice and summer vegetables declined while chilli price witnessed a rising trend on Friday compared to that of the previous week.
Prices of most of other commodities remained static on the day.
Thanks to the arrival of new Boro crop, price of different rice varieties declined by Tk1-2 per kg at retail level, said traders.
Miniket variety was sold at Tk 46-50 per kg, Brridhan-28 at Tk 37-38 (new), Brridhan-28 Tk41-42 (old), Sawrna at Tk 31-33 per kg on Friday.
Md Asaduzzaman Kamal, a rice trader at BDR Section area in the older part of the city said that prices of the rice reduced significantly in the growing hubs.
He said if the trend continues, the price will decline further with an end of the old stock.
He said cost of Miniket non-branded varieties is now hovering between Tk 2150-2300 per 50 kg sack which was Tk 2350-2500 per sack two weeks back.
The price started to decline with the beginning of Boro harvest, he said.
However, Miniket of different brands remained unchanged and were selling at Tk52-53 per kg.
Prices of some summer vegetables witnessed a decline by Tk5-15 per kg on Friday.
Teasle gourd, snake gourd and sponge gourd were sold at Tk 45-50, pointed gourd, ridge gourd and long bean at Tk35-40 per kg on the day.
Chilli prices witnessed a Tk15-20 hike in last seven days as per kg was sold at Tk60-65 on Friday.
Md Atiar Rahman, a vegetable trader at Nowabganj Bazar in the city said that prices of vegetables have reduced as supply has increased from the growing hubs.
He said chilli witnessed a hike due to rain in few growing districts.
Fish and meat prices remained static maintaining higher prices, according to the key kitchen markets in the city.
Beef was sold at Tk370-390 per kg in various kitchen markets while mutton was traded at Tk560-600 per kg.
