Prices of spices up ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

The market prices of spices including cardamom, cumin, ginger and garlic showed an upward trend ahead of the ensuing Eid-ul-Azha.
Among the spice items, cardamom price per kg shoot up to Tk 2800 increasing from Tk 1200 within one month.
The retailers are selling cumin per kg Tk 400, which was earlier Tk 350. Price of imported ginger was Tk 170 per kg while that of Bangladeshi one Tk 100 and garlic price was Tk 150, which was Tk 120-130 per kg last week.
The price of pesta nut per kg was Tk 3000, chili Tk 200, turmeric at Tk 350 and cinnamon Tk 250.
Grocers told reporters that the prices of spice items soared due to their high demand on the occasion of upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
Besides, the prices of rice and vegetables declined due to adequate supply of those commodities in the city's kitchen markets.
Prices of broiler and local chicken increased by 7.55 per cent and 11.90 per cent respectively.
A kg of coarse rice was sold at Tk 26-Tk 27, that was Tk 30 per kg in the past few weeks. Swarna rice was sold at Tk 31-Tk 32 per kg while Paizam was sold at Tk 33-Tk 34. BR-28 was sold between Tk 38 and Tk 40 per kg. Minicate rice depending on quality was sold between Tk 40 and Tk 44 and Nazirshail rice was sold between Tk 42 and Tk 44 per kg.
Packed ata (flour) of two kg was sold at Tk 46-Tk 47, that was Tk 48 in the past few weeks.
Unpacked edible oil prices were up by Tk 2.0 per litre last week. Retailers were selling unpacked soybean at Tk 93-95 per litre against Tk 91-93 per litre earlier, and palm oil at Tk 85 per litre against Tk 83 in the previous week.
But the price of brand edible oil in five-litre containers remained steady. Rupchanda was selling at Tk 490 while other brands such as Teer, Fresh and ACI ranged between Tk 460 and Tk 470.
Prices of both local and imported onion were further up due to the growing demand ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, traders said.
Price of imported Indian onion was Tk 42 per kg, which was Tk 36 per kg in the previous week and the local one was selling at Tk 45 per kg against Tk 38 per kg in the week before.
Sugar maintained the same trend and was selling at Tk 50-52 per kg at the retailers' level in the city.
Local lentil was selling between Tk 105 and Tk 110 per kg depending on quality.
Meat sellers were selling beef at Tk 260-270 per kg and mutton at Tk 400 per kg. But prices of poultry birds showed a downward trend and those were selling at Tk 115-120 per kg against Tk 135-140 per kg in the week before.
Prices of fish witnessed an upward trend in the city's kitchen markets.
