Prices of vegetables, green chili, potato rise in city markets

Prices of vegetables, green chili and potato increased at the city's retail markets in the past week while onion, egg and garlic declined.
Besides, prices of other essential commodities, including rice, different brands of edible oil, remained almost unchanged in the city's kitchen markets during the period, traders said Friday.
Prices of vegetables increased by Tk 3.0-Tk 5.0 per kg due to shortage of supply at the retail level in the city.
On Friday, a kilogramme of lady's finger was selling at Tk 24-Tk 26, brinjal at Tk 24-Tk 26, papaya at Tk 15 and a medium-sized gourd at Tk 30-Tk 35, according to traders in the city's retail markets.
Cucumber was being sold at prices between Tk 18 and Tk 20 per kg, tomato at prices between Tk 22 and Tk 24 per kg, beans between Tk 20 and Tk 22 and bitter gourd between Tk 28 and Tk 32.
A kg of potato was being sold at Tk 14-Tk 15 on an average in the retail outlets.
Green chili was selling at Tk 32-Tk 34 per kg during the week on an average.
But, prices of onion declined by Tk 8.0-Tk 10.0 per kg due to huge supply, according to traders in the city's retail markets.
On Friday, a kg of local onion was selling at prices ranging between Tk 30 and Tk 32, which was selling at Tk 42-Tk 44 one week back. Besides, imported Indian onion's prices ranged between Tk 20 and Tk 24 which were at Tk 28-Tk 30 last week in the city's retail markets.
Prices of garlic also declined by Tk 10-Tk 12 per kg and now it is selling at prices between Tk 28 and Tk 30 per kg which was Tk 38-Tk 45 per kg on an average at the retail level earlier.
Prices of eggs came down at the city's retail markets. A dozen of eggs were selling at Tk 75-Tk 78, which sold at Tk 81-Tk 84 one week back on an average at the retail level.
During the past week, a kilogramme of local lentil was selling at Tk 105-Tk 115 and imported lentil at Tk 88-Tk 98 on an average at the city's retail outlets, remaining unchanged from their previous rates.
On the other hand, coarse varieties of rice, especially BR-28 were selling at Tk 24-Tk 26 per kg, Pari at Tk 23-Tk 25, 'paizam' at Tk 26-Tk 30 and Swarna at Tk 20-Tk 21 per kg on an average at the city's retail level, according to retail traders in the city's different rice shops.
Besides, prices of fine varieties of rice including the 'minicate' variety were Tk 34-Tk 38 per kg and Nazirshail Tk 34-Tk 36 per kg on an average in the city's retail markets during the last week.
Prices of different brands of edible oil in five-litre cans were between Tk 355 and Tk 375 in the city's kitchen markets last week.
During the last week, non-brand edible oils such as soybean oil and super palm oil were selling at Tk 70-Tk 72 and Tk 60-Tk 62 per kg respectively on an average in the city's retail markets, which were selling at Tk 78-Tk 80 and Tk 62-Tk 65 per kg a week before.
Prices of poultry birds were Tk 125-Tk 135 per kg on an average in the city's retail markets during the week. A kilogramme of beef was priced at Tk 220 and mutton at Tk 320-Tk 330 per kg.
