Prices rise on strong demand

FE Report | Thursday, 31 July 2008

There was a strong demand in the week's sale for well-made grainy varieties particularly the Fannings, from Pakistan, which resulted in high prices for the varieties. Blenders and Packeteers were active for good liquoring types, which were also fully firm to slightly dearer. Loose tea buyers lent some support.

After decline in recent weeks, prices in the week improved following more competition from all sections of the market particularly exporters. Dusts were a better market following more support from Blenders.

CTC LEAF: 24,924 packages and 110 packages of old season on offer met with a better demand at generally firm to slightly dearer levels.

BROKENS: Well-made good liquoring Brokens met with a fairly good demand and were generally firm but occasionally eased slightly. These could be quoted between Tk 118 and Tk 124. Other varieties were often easier following quality.

FANNINGS: Well-made Fannings were strongly competed for and were a dearer market often by Tk 2.00 to Tk 4.00 and these could be quoted between Tk 122 and Tk 130. Good liquoring types were fully firm to slightly dearer. Plainer varieties sold around last levels.

CTC DUST- 3,872 packages of old season on offer met with a better demand at mostly firm rates. Select few lines of best liquoring types were a slightly dearer market following competition. Good liquoring varieties sold around last levels with the plainer varieties easing slightly following quality. Blenders lent fairly strong support with more interest from the Loose tea buyers.
