HADI MURDER PROBE & MOVEMENT

Prime accused, associate fled to India: DMP

FE REPORT | Monday, 29 December 2025

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has claimed that the prime accused in the case filed over the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi and his associate have fled to India.
Meanwhile, India's Meghalaya Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have rejected claims by the DMP that the two main suspects in the murder of Sharif Osman bin Hadi fled to India and that two of their alleged abetters were arrested across the border.
DMP said two Indian nationals assisted them in fleeing to India and the Meghalaya (India) police arrested those two Indian citizens.
Additional Commissioner of DMP S N Nazrul Islam made the above claim at a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre in the capital on Sunday.
He said the DMP identified the two arrested individuals -- accused of helping the prime accused, Faisal Karim Masud, and his associate Alamgir Sheikh escape to India -- as Purnti and Sami.
The murder of Hadi was a premeditated one, he also said, adding that after the incident, Faisal and Alamgir travelled from Dhaka to Aminbazar in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
From there, they went by car to Kalampur, and then took another vehicle from Kalampur to the Mymensingh border. On the border, Faisal and Alamgir were received by Philip Pal and Sanjay, who illegally smuggle people across the border. Philip later took the duo to the Indian state of Meghalaya.
The additional commissioner said Philip took Faisal and Alamgir to a place called Tura in India, where he handed them over to an Indian national named Purnti. They later fled from there in a vehicle driven by a man named Sami.
Nazrul Islam also said so far 11 people had been arrested in connection with the murder.
Of them, six have given confessional statements before a court under Section 164, and four witnesses have also given confessional statements in court.
The additional commissioner said that the investigation into the Hadi murder case was in its final stage and that the charge sheet would be submitted within next seven to ten days.
Additional Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP, Shafiqul Islam, told the media that many of those behind the killing had been identified, though not all names can be disclosed in the interest of the investigation.
He said based on the information obtained so far, the killing appeared to have been politically motivated.
