CHITTAGONG, Feb 7 (BSS): Detained prime accused in the sensational ten truckloads of arms case Hafizur Rahman gave lengthy confessional statement before a Metropolitan Magistrate here again disclosing the names of some high ups of the then administration and intelligence agency.
On the concluding day of a 3-day remand yesterday, Hafiz agreed to confess before the Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman and the Magistrate started recording Hafiz's confessional statements under BPC Section 164 at 5:00 pm that continued up to 00.45 am (midnight) today turning the volume of statement to about 43 pages, court and CID sources said.
Investigation Officer of the Chittagong Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the probing agency of the case Mohammad Moniruzzaman told the news agency that the latest statement of Hafiz seems to be a major development in terms of importance of information he revealed in completing the investigation of the case.
CID officials brought Hafiz on fresh remand mainly aiming at eliciting the name of arms carrying mother vessel and source of the illicit consignment.
But, senior CID officials admitted that Hafiz did not mention the name of the vessel and source of arms and ammunition during his interrogation at CID headquarters rather most of the time he repeated the information confessed earlier.
While making confession before the magistrate yesterday, he avoided telling the name of arms carrying mother vessel only saying he could not identify the ship in the dark of night.
