Prime Bank completes 14 years, vows to gain int'l recognition

The Prime Bank will make double small and medium enterprises (SMEs) lending by this year to boost the sector. To this end it would set up five SME service centres across the country.
The bank will also expand its operational activities across the country by opening 15 more branches from existing 70. Of which, seven will be opened in rural areas.
It will also set up 30 more ATM (automated teller machine) booths this year against 29 ATM booths set up in the last year.
"We have already established our position as a leading private commercial bank (PCB), now our target is to get international recognition through attaining significant growth in all business areas in near future," said the bank's managing director M Ehsanul Haque at a press conference to mark its 14th anniversary in a city hotel Thursday.
Explaining the reason to double the SMEs loan, he said the move would help cope with shrinking demand from big corporate clients mainly due to the global financial downturn.
"Lending in SMEs will be doubled this year from the existing Tk 6.0 billion," he said adding that the SMEs should be strengthened to tackle the impact of global economic meltdown.
To make the bank more operationally vibrant, Ehsanul also promised to expand the bank's online services through diversified IT based products like internet banking, SMS banking, call centre and so on.
The bank's additional managing director Mahbubul Alam, deputy managing directors Md Mehmood Hussain, Md Reazul Karim and Isbahul Bar Chowdhury were present at the press conference.
Prime Bank is also going to launch a TV programme on creating awareness to send remittances in a legal channel by the expatriates Bangladeshis.
"We are very much serious to boost up the remittance-flow and that's why we like to take various efforts in this area to help promote the economy," the chief executive of the bank said.
Besides operating with sound footing, Prime Bank is involved in various corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. With this end, it has established Prime Bank Foundation through which it is rendering different short-term and long-term services on health and education, said MD of the bank.
The bank's paid up capital stood at Tk 2.70 billion, deposit Tk 97 billion and investment Tk 73 billion.
The ATM card holders of the Prime Bank will be able to use the ATM booths of the Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd as former inked a deal with the latter.
The bank has also set up a subsidiary enterprise titled Prime Exchange Company in order to make easier for the expatriates living in Singapore to remit in the country.
