Prime Bank maintain top slot

Prime Bank Cricket Club maintained their top spot in the Walton Dhaka Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) after beating Partex Sporting Club by a massive 134 runs in their 9th round match, spurred by a century by opener Soumya Sarkar at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city Saturday, reports UNB.
With the day's result, Prime Bank CC moved to 16 points with eight wins and a single loss to secure the top slot. Abahani Ltd is in the second position, ahead of the Kalabagan Cricket Academy by virtue of net run rate, both bagging 12 points with six win and two loses from their eight matches. Defending champion Legends of Rupganj is in sixth place bagging 10 points with five wins and four losses.
In the day's match, batting first after winning the toss, Prime Bank CC scored a fighting total of 251 runs for 8 in stipulated 50 overs.
Prime bank started well as the opening stand partner Soumya Sarker and Saikat Ali (26) able to contribute 75 runs for 1 in 18.4 overs, before Saikat was caught by Zain Abbas off Nuruzzaman.
Soumya Sarker made his century scoring team highest of 127 runs off 147 balls with 14 fours and two sixes, before he fell run out. Later, Soumya took one wicket for his side conceding 17 runs in 5 overs to be adjudged man-of-the match.
After the dismal departure of number three Brendan Taylor (2) at 79 runs for 2 in 19.4 overs, Soumya continued his run-composer partnering with skipper Mahmudullah (25) to contribute 69 runs in 17.4 overs, in the third wicket stand, till the dismissal of Mahmudullah who was caught by Abdur Rahman off Mohammad Azim at 148 runs for 3 in 37.2 overs.
In the 4th wicket stand, Soumya Sarker pairing with number five Shuvagata (30) contributed another 73 runs in 8.3 overs, before Shuvagata was caught by Riazul Karim off Mohammad Azim. Taskin Ahmed (not out 10) was the other double digit scorer for Prime Bank Cricket Club.
Nuruzzaman grabbed four wickets for 23 runs in 10 overs while Mohammad Azim took two wickets for 59 runs in eight overs. Riazul Karim took one wickets for 18 runs in 6 overs.
Chasing a target of 252 runs, Partex SC were all out for 117 runs in 42 overs.
Number six Riazul Karim (24), opening batsman Abdullah Al Mamun (23), Mehrab Hossain Jr (21), Nuruzzaman (not out 20), Zain Abbas (12) were the double digit scorers for Partex SC.
Taskin Ahmed grabbed four wickets for 16 runs in 8 overs; Shuvagata Hom bagged three wickets for 11 runs in 5 overs while Enamul Haque Jr took two wickets for 26 runs in 8 overs.
Legends of Rupganj vs Mohammedan Sporting Club
In the day's other match, defending champion Legends of Rupganj conceded their fourth successive defeat losing to Mohammedan Sporting Club by 12 runs at BKSP-3, Savar.
Mohammedan SC batted first after winning the toss and scored a formidable 313 runs for 7 in 50 overs, guided by opener Ezaj Ahmed century of 136 runs off 139 balls with seven fours and 10 sixes.
After the dismissal of Tanveer Haider (29) at 67 for 1 in 16 overs, Ezaj pairing with Mohammad Mithun contributed 167 runs in 26 overs, in the second wicket stand, before Ezaj was fell victim of run out off a Junaid Siddique delivery at 234 for 2 in 42 overs.
Mithun made a stunning half-century scoring run-a-ball 70 featuring six fours and two sixes before he was caught by Rubel Hossain off Ryan ten Doeschate at 242 for 3 in 42.4 overs.
Number four Solomon Mire smashed 39 runs off 22 balls with three fours and three sixes while Ariful Haque quick fired 25 runs 17 balls with two six to be other double digit scorer for Mohammedan SC.
RN ten Doeschate and all rounder Shakib Al Hasan grabbed two wickets each for 53 and 61 runs respectively in 7 and 9 overs. Naeem Islam Jr took one wicket for 45 runs in 8 overs.
Chasing a mammoth target of 314 runs, Legends of Rupganj scored 301 runs for 9 wickets in 50 overs, just 12 runs short of their target.
Opening batsman Junaid Siddique scored team highest run-a-ball 91 with six fours and four sixes. Number eight Sharifullah smashed 72 runs off 69 balls with five fours and three sixes while number three Shakib Al Hasan failed to made a half-century quick firing 49 runs off 35 balls with three fours and four sixes.
Faisal Hossain (32), Alok Kapali(15), Abul Hasan (12) and Nazmul Hossain Milon (12) were the other double digit scorers for Legends of Rupganj.
Amit Kumar grabbed three wickets for 63 runs in 8 overs while Mashrafe Mortaza took two wickets for 59 runs in 10 overs.
Naeem Islam, Rahatul Ferdous and Solomon Mire took one wicket each for 23, 25 and 55 runs respectively in 7.5 and 7 overs.
Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club vs Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club
Meanwhile at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club beat Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 100 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, Prime Doleshwar SC scored 230 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs.
Number six Asif Ahmed made a half-century scoring team highest 55 runs off 72 balls with six fours and a six while Dawid Malan scored 49 runs off 83 balls with two fours and a six.
Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (33), Sumon Saha (27), Muktar Ali (not out 18), opener Mehedi Maruf (16) and Mominul Haque (11) were the other double digit scorers for their side.
Rubaiyat Haque grabbed four wickets 50 runs in 7 overs; Nahidul Islam took two wickets for 26 runs in 10 overs while Tushar Imran and Arafat Sunny took one wickets for 33 and 53 runs respectively in 7 and 10 overs respectively.
Set 231 to win, Sheikh Jamal DC, were bundled out for 130 runs in 37.1 overs.
Maisuqur Rahman (23), skipper Tushar Imran (23), Arafat Sunny (not out 23), Amit Majumder(20) and Nahidul Islam (14) ere the notable scorer for their side.
Sanjamul Islam claimed five wickets for 30 runs in 8.1 overs while Elias Sunny grabbed four wickets for 32 runs in 9 overs and Asif Ahmed took one wicket for 25 runs in 10 overs.
