Prisoner commits suicide in Rajshahi Jail

An under-trail prisoner allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a branch of a tree on the Rajshahi Central Jail premises early this morning, jail sources said.
The deceased was identified as Md Jonny, 21, of Bulanpur Ghoshpara area under Rajpara Police Station in the city, a BSS report said.
Jailor Shahadat Hossain told the local newsmen that Jonny went out from his Mohananda Ward of the jail to answer the call of nature at around 5 am and hanged himself from a tree branch. He was immediately rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.
The jail authority found a divorce letter in his pocket, sent by his wife, and suspects that it might be the reason behind his suicide, the jailor added.
Rajpara Police detained him yesterday (Saturday) in connection with a theft case filed on June 27 and the court sent him to jail.
An unnatural death case was recorded with Rajpara Police in this connection.
The body was sent to the hospital morgue for postmortem.
