Private cars choking up city traffic
Monday, 1 July 2019
Paris, the capital of France, has recently restricted car use as a measure to fight surging air pollution there. Air pollution is also increasing alarmingly in Dhaka. Maybe, we can take similar steps.
Every week the number of private cars is increasing on the streets of Dhaka city, intensifying the traffic. We should discourage people from buying private cars. Also, the public transport system needs to be improved drastically. Setting a limit on the number of cars will be good for the environment as well.
Maybe, the city could observe a 'private car-free day'. Persistent traffic congestion is eating away valuable time and holding our economy back from reaching its full potential.
