Private practice of government physicians may be allowed

Friday, 16 July 2010

Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr AFM Ruhal Haque Thursday said the National Health Policy 2010 would be finalised very soon and in the light of that government physicians may be allowed private practice, reports BSS.
He said a cross section of people has expressed their opinions in the website on the draft of the policy and the ministry also arranged workshops in all divisions with the representatives of concerned professional organisations and other stakeholders on the issue.
"The ministry is now working on incorporating the peoples' opinions on the draft," the minister said while replying to a question from treasury bench member Momtaz Begum in the house. A decision for allowing the physicians of public hospitals for private practice will be taken according to the new policy, he said.
Replying to another question from treasury bench member ABM Golam Mostafa the health minister said the government has no plan yet to put the upazila level family planning employees under the authorities of Upazila Health Officer (UHO).
The government has a plan to upgrade all 31-bed hospitals at the upazila level to 50-bed hospitals, the minister said.
