Kokil Textile Mills resumed production on May 26, 2007 after eight and a half years. Authorities denied their demand and closed the mills for an indefinite period, sources said As a result, two hundred and ten male and female employees and workers are in uncertainty.
That KTM authority sold valuable machinery of the mill, a good number of large trees from inside the mill compound and a huge quantity of concrete of old building at dead of night secretly with the assistance of unscrupulous traders. KTM manager (administration) told this correspondent the machinery items were scrap.
The mill derives its origin from Panoroma Company Limited (PCL), which was established in 1961 on 11.08 acres of land at Brahmanbaria town. It started production of yarn in 1966. After liberation of Bangladesh, the government nationalised it. The company was renamed Kokil Textile Mills in 1972. At the beginning, the mill was running successfully.
