FE REPORT | Friday, 14 October 2022
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) is set to host "SAFA International Conference 2022" on October 15 at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.
The theme for this year's International Conference of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) is "Regional Connectivity for Sustainable Growth".
The announcement was made at a press conference organised by the ICAB at its office in the city's Karwan Bazar area.
ICAB President Shahadat Hossain, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shubhashish Bose, ICAB council members Sabbir Ahmed and Gopal Chandra Ghosh and SAFA International Conference organising committee chairman Parveen Mahmud spoke at the press conference.
ICAB president Shahadat Hossain said prosperity as well as economic cooperation and stability are needed in the South Asian region to deal with the ongoing economic crisis.
Under such circumstances, professional accountants will undoubtedly play significant role in dealing with the crisis, he said.
The ICAB president said the government is working to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance regional trade and connectivity for sustainable growth.
He also said the Russia-Ukraine war, dollar crisis, fuel oil crisis, and commodity price hike have changed the dynamics of the global economy before the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic is over. To ease the impact of pandemic and turbulent global politics, there is no alternative to regional cooperation and inter-connection between countries to overcome these challenges, he added.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will inaugurate the conference as the chief guest while State Minister of Planning Dr Shamsul Alam will be present as the special guest.
Former governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman will present the keynote paper in the inaugural session of the conference.
Prime Minister's private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman will be present as the chief guest in the valedictory session of the event.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between SAFA and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in this session.
Around 30 foreign representatives from SAARC countries including India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, are likely to participate in the event.
