Pro-AL lawyers stage demo in Sylhet
Wednesday, 11 March 2015
SYLHET, Mar 10 (UNB): Lawyers staged on Tuesday demonstrations after boycotting the court proceedings following the denial of bail to three pro-Awami League lawyers in the Jubo League leader Abdul Ali killing case.
On March 3, the three lawyers -- additional public prosecutor Mahfuzur Rahman, also publicity secretary of district Awami League, unit member Ajmal Ali and Habibur Rahman -- were sent to jail when they surrendered before a court, seeking bail in the murder case.
On Tuesday, judge of the 5th Cognisance Court Kudrat-e-Khuda rejected the petitions again when they prayed for bail.
After the court order, the lawyers abstained from the court proceedings and staged demonstrations on the court premises.
Meanwhile, a photojournalist was assaulted while taking snapshots of the incident.
Local Jubo League leader Abdul Ali was shot dead at Katakhal in Companyganj upazila on October 24, 2014.
Victim's wife Halima Akter filed a case against 29 people in this connection.
