Thursday, 6 November 2014

The committee investigating Saturday’s (Nov 1) massive power outage across the country have sought more time to file its findings. On Thursday, power division’s Additional Secretary Kaykaus Ahmed –the chief of the probe body – said they were yet to identify the reason for the national grid failure that left swath of the country without power for over 11 hours. The government on Nov 1 formed the strong 7-member committee to probe the worst ever power cut in Bangladesh, giving the panel 3 working days to submit its findings. The panel members, including its chief Kaykaus Ahmed, visited the Thermal Power Station at Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria district on Wednesday. Earlier, the committee members visited the sub-station in Ramkrishnapur in Bheramara in Kushtia on Tuesday. ‘We will not be able to file our report within the timeframe of 3-working days set by the ministry. We will inform the ministry about the progress of the investigation on Thursday afternoon and inform them that more time is required to submit the report,’ Kaykaus Ahmed told reporters in the morning. Replying to a query, the probe panel chief confirmed that they were yet to identify the reason for the national grid collapse, according to private TV channels.
