Production at Chhatak Cement suspended

SYLHET, Jan 5: Production at Chhatak Cement Factory on the bank of the Surma at Chhatak Upazila remained closed for last eight days due to a fault in power plant. Sources said though the power plant of the factory needs overhauling in every five years, no such work was done in last seven years. Following the failure of the power plant, the factory is incurring a production loss of Tk 3.0 million (30 lakh) per day, factory sources said. The factory, established in 1937, produces 0.16 million tonnes of cement annually at the rate of 500 tonnes each day.
