KHULNA, Nov 15: The production of state run Hardboard Mill of Khulna on the verge of closure due to crisis of furnace oil. As a result, the mill faces severe losses. In this situation, frustration has been prevailing among the workers and employees.
Mill sources said that the supply of furnace oil to the mill from Padma and Jamuna oil depots had been suspended recently. Depots sources said that the work of overhauling of the country's only Eastern Refineries Limited at Chittagong had been started since October 15 and would continue till December 15. For this reason the supply was not possible to the mill except Khulna Power Station during the period, officials said. As a result, the production might be suspended within a few days and over 250 workers and employees would become jobless for the period.
Mill sources said that on an average 8,000 litres of furnace oil were required per day to run the boiler for production. Over 3.5 lakh litre of furnace oil would be required to run the mill as usual till December-15. If the production had to be suspended for lack of supply of furnace oil, the mill would face a huge loss side by side the government would be deprived of a lot of revenue.
