KHULNA, Nov 19: Production at Khulna Hard Board Mills Limited (KHBML) has been suspended for lack of furnace oil.
Sources apprehend that production would remain suspended up to December 16 until the completion of overhauling work of Eastern Refinery Limited, the lone furnace oil producer of the country.
The mill sources said that there were 54 thousand litres of furnace oil kept stocked in the mill up to end of October. Besides, another 54 thousand litres of oil were supplied to the mill between November 01 to November 16 from local Padma, Meghna and Jamuna oil depots. Of them, 27 thousand litres were supplied from Jamuna, 18 thousand from Padma and nine thousand from Meghna depots.
After operating the mill for 16 days with the above 108 thousand litres of furnace oil, the production was closed Sunday night.
The mill authority sources said 54 thousands litres of oil are required per week to continue the production. But the above three oil depots gave assurance of supplying only 27 thousand litres per week.
KHBML Managing Director Md Khalilur Rahman said in this situation, it is not possible to continue production until an adequate quantity of furnace oil is available.
Sources said the mill would lose about Tk 200 million as a result of closure of production.
