Prof Shafiul killing: 34 held, 11 remanded

A Rajshahi court on Wednesday placed 11 people on a 2-day police remand over the murder of Rajshahi University (RU) teacher AKM Shafiul Islam. Metropolitan Magistrate, Rajshahi, Sharmin Akter issued the order in the afternoon. Motihar Police station’s OC Alamgir Hossain, also the investigating officer of the murder case, said ‘an appeal was made for 10 days’ remand for each of the 11 arrestees over Prof Shafiul Islam murder. The judge has granted 2 days’ remand after the hearing.’ A total of 34 people have been picked up since the killing of the RU sociology teacher on Saturday afternoon. Of them, 11 were shown arrested. The arrestees are Humayun Ahmed, the principal of Islamia Degree College and another teacher of the college Fazlul Haque. The others are Mosharraf Hossain, Abdullah Al Mahamud, Mashiur Rahman, Hasibur Rahman, Jinnat Ali, Saif Uddin, Rezaul Karim, ‘Sagor’ and ‘Arif’, according to a news agency.
