Prof Sonali Banerjee keen to set up Bangabandhu Chair at Calcutta varsity

Professor Dr Sonali Chakravati Banerjee, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University, called on Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter’s office at DU on Wednesday afternoon. During the meeting, Prof Dr Sonali Chakravati Banerjee expressed her keen interest to establish ‘Bangabadhu Sheikh Mujib Chair’ at Calcutta University (CU) and requested for mutual cooperation from the Bangladesh government. She also informed about an initiative to establish ‘Centre for Bangladesh Studies’ where knowledge and experiences of both the universities and countries will be shared and exchanged. The CU Pro-Vice and the DU VC also discussed matters of mutual interest particularly focusing on various ways to improve the existing relations between the two universities. The DU VC thanked the visiting CU Pro VC for her interest in strengthening bilateral relations through academic and research activities. Siddique laid emphasis on increasing further collaborations for enhancing academic excellence, said an official release.
