Monday, 7 April 2014
Andrea Jung has been named President, CEO and a director of Grameen America, a top microfinance organisation in the United States. Jung, the former Chairman and CEO of Avon Products, Inc. and longtime champion of women's issues, joins Grameen America this month. Founded by 2006 Nobel laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, Grameen America is dedicated to helping women who live in poverty build small businesses to create better lives for their families. Grameen America has provided more individuals and small businesses with micro loans than any other organisation in the US. In a record achievement over the last five years, Grameen America’s pioneer branch in Queens, NY, reached sustainability, with interest income from loans covering operating expenses. This is the first microfinance organisation in the US to reach sustainability. Nobel Peace Prize winner Prof Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank and founder Chairman of Grameen America, announced: “We are thrilled to have Andrea Jung join Grameen America as President and CEO,” according to a news agency.
