Ashna Rahman, a Bangladeshi, was awarded PhD in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Nottingham, UK in 2008. Her main research area was government fiscal policy and, foreign aid. Her thesis focuses on the controversial issue of how government fiscal policy can be designed to ensure the efficient use of foreign aid and received recognition for her contribution on this issue from the peer group world wide.
During her Ph D studies she was working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the University of Nottingham for B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses. She obtained her B.Sc. (Hons) in Economics and Econometrics and M.Sc. in Financial Economics from the same university in 2001 and 2002 respectively. During her studies, she received many prestigious awards and scholarships on merit. CREDIT (Centre for Research in Economic Development and International Trade) scholarship, School of Economics, University of Nottingham, Charles Walace Trust Award, International Merit Awards, UK are some of the many worth mentioning.
Her research papers were recognised by many prestigious Economic Association and peer groups and were selected for presentation and discussion in conferences such, World Bank Institute in France, Annual Research Conference of Development Economics in Seattle, USA, Annual Conference of Development Studies in London etc. She also presented her research result on Bangladesh in Centre for Policy Dialogue, Dhaka organised by Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharyya and attended by Prof Rehman Sobhan and Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, among many other distinguished economists.
Her academic achievements abroad are just a continuation of her outstanding results at home. She stood first (combined in all board) in SSC in 1996 and also stood first in HSC in 1998.
Currently she is working as a Trading Analyst and Economic Advisor for E. On Energy Trading in UK and is mainly involved in forecasting and economic evaluation of energy in European markets.
Ashna's only brother Muktadir Ur Rahman is also a brilliant Economist who is now working as a consultant for Halcrow Group Ltd., London.
Mr. Mostafizur Rahman and Farida Rahman are proud parents of Ashna.
