Programme on women empowerment kicked off in Jessore

JESSORE, Aug 4: A fresh programme on women empowerment was launched in Jessore through a session at a Chinese restaurant in the town Tuesday.
Winrock International is implementing the programme at all the eight upazilas in Jessore in association with Dhaka Ahsania Mission and ACI Limited, funded by USAID.
A total of 30,000 women and 7,500 men will be empowered through the programme by gaining training and education on entrepreneurship, seed production and other agriculture based activities. Women and their family members will have the opportunities to improve their capacities on income generating activities, too.
Dr. Humayun Kabir, deputy commissioner, Jessore, kicked off the programme as the chief guest in the morning. It was attended among others by Laura Romah, programme manager, Winrock International, Edith McClintock, environment officer, USAID, Nittya Ranjan Biswas, deputy director, agriculture extension department, Jessore, Sakina Khatun, women affairs officer, Jessore, Dr. Ehsanur Rahman, executive director, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, SM Manjurul Haque, district cooperative officer, Jessore, Zainab Akhter, chief of party, Feed the Future Bangladesh, Nilufar Sultana, deputy chief of party, Tanjum Ara Polly, communication officer, Feed the Future and Saifullah, chief strategy officer, ACI Limited.
