Programmes to celebrate Pahela Baishakh in N-districts

RANGPUR, Apr 11 (BSS): The administrations and different organisations have completed all kinds of preparations to celebrate the Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali new year in a befitting manner in the northern districts on April 14. The concerned authorities have taken adequate steps to ensure law and order situation for peaceful celebrations of the day with the spirit of War of Liberation and the rich ancestral cultural heritage of the Bengalis. The district and Upazila administrations and different other organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day. Children, youths, men, women and activists of the socio- cultural, voluntary and professional organisations wearing traditional dresses will come out on the streets after sunrise to welcome the Bengali New Year. Baishakhi processions will parade different roads carrying colourful festoons, placards and banners, wearing masks and singing Boishakhi songs, Palli Geeti, Jarigan, Vatiali, Baul, Lalon Geeti, Nazrul Geeti and Rabindra Sangeet and other folk and classical songs. The businessmen in hats, bazars, groceries, sales centers and important places in both rural and urban areas taking preparation to celebrate traditional Halkhata and to distribute sweets among their customers. Baishakhi Melas, cultural functions, staging dramas, doll-dances, Nagor Dola, kite flying competitions and discussions meeting on Pahela Baishakh will be held at district and Upazila towns to welcome the Bengali New Year. In Rangpur students, teachers, officials, employees, socio- cultural and professional activists and women organisations will bring out Baishakhi procession and will parade the streets in the morning. An open discussion meeting will be held, stalls and restaurant of different food items will be installed in the Baishakhi Mela and other roadside places. Besides these cultural functions will be organised at many other places in the divisional towns. Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Medical College, Carmichael College, Chhandosik Shahittya and Sanskritik Gosthi, Rangpur Nagorik Nattya Gosthi, Sammilito Sangskritik Jyote and other originations have chalked out separate Baishakhi programmes. A rally participated by hundreds of the aboriginal people wearing their traditional dresses will parade the streets of the divisional city to welcome Pahela Baishakh. Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur BM Enamul Haque said that the Authorities including the law enforcing agencies and Administrations have already taken adequate measures to ensure Law and order for peaceful celebrations of Bengali new year.
