Foreign Minister (FM) Dr Dipu Moni, who is also Minister-in-Charge of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in the House, Thursday said that the country was engaged in various activities to create self-employment for the distressed women, reports BSS.
"There are proposals for some new programmes in this area," she said while replying to a question raised by treasury bench member Enamul Haque in the House. The programmes now being implemented include VGD-UP, micro-credit and production-oriented and income-generating trainings, she said.
Besides, she said, the programmes included in the proposed ADP were development of women training centres at district level, 'Development of Ultra Poor Women' for 13 Sidr-hit districts and development project for tribal women and children.
Answering to another question from ruling party lawmaker M Abdul Latif, the minister said the women and children affairs department was implementing a number of programmes to protect social rights of the women.
She told Awami League (AL) member Sarah Begum Kabori that there were seven women hostels in the country at government level with a new plan to raise their number.
Responding to another question from BNP lawmaker Rasheda Begum Heera, the minister said there was a need for bringing different projects under a coordinated policy and the government had a plan to this end.
