RAJSHAHI, Oct 30: Proper planning and updated academic curriculum are needed to ensure quality higher education rather than establishing more and more private universities.
Rajshahi University (RU) Vice-chancellor Prof Mamnunul Keramat made this observation as the chief guest at the discussion on 'Commercialisation of higher education sector in Bangladesh and role of the related institutions' organised by the RU Press Club (RUPC) at its Deans' Complex Conference Hall in Rajshahi recently.
Chaired by RUPC President Mahfuzur Rahman Munshi, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Teachers' Students Cultural Centre Director and RUPC adviser Abdur Rahman Siddique, Sonali Sangbad Editor Md Liakat Ali, Bangladesh Observer bureau chief Md Mubinul Islam, RUPC Adviser Prof Amzad Hossain, RU Public Relations Office Administrator Ahmed Shafi Uddin and Dr Shahin Zohra of UITS of Rajshahi Campus.
Prof Shah Azom Shantanu of RU Marketing Department conducted the meeting while RUPC Secretary Aurangazeb Sohel delivered address of welcome.
The meeting recommended to start double or triple shift education in the 29 public universities to meet the pressing demand of meritorious students.
