Proposal to give gallantry awards to organisers of WoL to be made: Tajul
Thursday, 10 September 2009
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam Wednesday said the ministry would place a proposal to the government to give gallantry awards to the organisers of the War of Liberation (WoL), reports BSS.
Replying to a supplementary from Mainuddin Khan Badal of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) during the question-answer session in the House, the state minister said many Freedom Fighters (FFs) could not take part directly in the war, but played significant roles in organising the war.
"The ministry has a plan to recognise their contribution", he said.
Replying to a question from treasury bench member Sadhana Haldar, he said the present government has taken initiative to prepare an accurate list of FFs as the BNP-Jammat alliance government dropped the names of many genuine freedom fighters from the list and included the fake ones.
