Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has termed the proposed national budget for 2007-08 fiscal as realistic and time-befitting, reports BSS from Rajshahi.
In a statement, RCCI President Hasen Ali said, different need-based sectors like education, technology and agriculture along with controlling market prices of various essential commodities were given priority in the budget, and its basic foundation is production enhancement, poverty alleviation and ensuring of social security.
He also said the proposed subsidy to the agriculture sector and its sub-sectors would contribute a lot in increasing the country's agricultural productivity.
Referring to the withdrawal of import-tax on various essential commodities like edible oil, lentil, rice, wheat, onion and gram etc, he said, it would play an effective role in bringing a stable situation in the consumer markets. He also said that the proposed decision for food procurement from both external and internal sectors to face the food deficit would also help reduce poverty.
RCCI also termed the proposed allocation to the SME sector for disbursement among the entrepreneurs as a laudable step to accelerate the neglected sector, and recommended arrangement of special scopes for the women entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, the RCCI chief demanded 'special allocation' to supply natural gas to Rajshahi through pipeline for the development of the region in the final budget.
He said some high-valued crops, fruits and vegetables like aromatic rice, potato, mango, tomato and papaya are being produced in the region significantly, but due to lack of processing facilities they are not being properly utilised.
If proper initiatives are taken, he said, the growers of the region would be encouraged to cultivate more fruits and vegetables in scientific and modern ways.
