Proposed budget \\\'time-befitting, investment-friendly\\\'

Treasury bench members Tuesday described the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2014-15 as time-befitting, pragmatic and investment-friendly, reports BSS.
Taking part in a general discussion on the proposed national budget in parliament, they said the budget is not 'ambitious one' as there would not be any problem to implement it by the government if political stability exists in the country.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith placed a Tk 2,505.06 billion national budget for 2014-15 financial year on June 5 in parliament eying for a 7.3 per cent GDP growth. The lawmakers said with the implementation of the budget the government would be able to reach its desired goal to transform Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021.
The proposed budget will be a significant milestone in its journey towards establishing a prosperous Bangladesh, they added.
Describing budget as a tool for fulfilling the dreams of nation, they expressed the hope that the budget would help implement building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh free from hunger and poverty.
They put emphasised on revenue collection to implement Annual Development Programme (ADP) to achieve the goal of transforming Bangladesh into a middle-income country.
Taking part in the discussion, Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman categorically said that the present government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would be able to implement the budget as she is committed to turning Bangladesh into a middle income country by implementing Vision-2021.
"Of course, it is a high ambitious budget... if we don't have ambition, how we will develop the country," he added.
Brushing aside some BNP stalwarts for terming the budget as "illegal", treasury bench member Panchanon Biswas said their comments were 'illogical" as the democratically elected government has placed the budget in the House in line with the constitution.
Treasury bench members Ishrafil Alam and Mohammad Ainuddin also took part in the discussion.
Earlier, the Jatiya Sangsad resumed its sitting at 5.21 pm with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chawdhury in the chair. State Minister for Youths and Sports Biren Shikder made a statement in the House on the loss of lives by wall collapse of Sylhet stadium under the Rule 300 of the Rules of Procedure.
Besides, parliamentary standing committee report on Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Bill, 2014 was also placed in the House. Chairman of the committee RAM Ubaidul Muktadir Chowdhury placed the report.
The House was adjourned at 6.52 pm to resume at 4 pm tomorrow.
