FE REPORT | Wednesday, 13 November 2024

Newly-appointed Commerce Advisor Sk Bashir Uddin has expressed hope that the proposed Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will brighten trade prospects between Bangladesh and Japan.
It would open new doors of opportunities for Bangladesh, he said during a courtesy meeting with IWAMA Kiminori, ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, at the secretariat on Tuesday.
During the meeting, they discussed the proposed EPA as well as the bilateral trade situation of the two nations.
The advisor said Bangladesh was an emerging economy and would be able to create a strong position in the international market because of such a deal with Japan.
Bashir mentioned that the relationship between Bangladesh and Japan had been raised to the standards of transparency and trust. This relationship would be stronger in future through the increase in trade, he added.
The Japanese ambassador said his country had a long-standing friendship with Bangladesh, which would deepen through the expansion of business. Both countries could enjoy trade benefits through dialogue, he added.
