Prospect of denim export from Bangladesh
Saturday, 25 January 2014
Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of Denim after China. Denim has been playing a significant role in our economic development over the last few years. Usually, denim is used for making stylish clothes for all the seasons. Most of the people of our country are familiar with denim. Usually Bangladesh exports it to the European countries, including England, Russia, Norway, Italy, Poland, Germany, Romania, and many countries of Latin America, including Brazil, Argentina etc.
In the perspective of fashion-fabric, use of denim is versatile all the year round. Its service is long lasting compared to the other cloths. These reasons have made the demand for the fabric high to the investors worldwide.
Bangladesh should produce more denim items for the European market as soon as possible. The items will obviously bring extra profit. Bangladesh has been producing 20 million-yard denim a month against 40 million-yard demand.
In spite of having plenty of orders from the retailers, the producers are failing to produce it in time owing to the poor capital and poor supply chain management.
Entrepreneurs cannot set up new denim mills due to high bank interest, inadequate gas and power supplies. The government should give existing term loan to the entrepreneurs and take steps to improve the supply chain system so that the produced cloths can be sent to the tailors in time.
