Protect Pushpa Saha Pond: Green activists

Green activists on Friday demanded immediate steps to recover Pushpa Saha Pond in old part of the city from illegal occupation and protect it from pollution. The demand came from a human chain programme organised jointly by Poribesh Bachao Andolon (Poba), Green Mind Society and Pushpa Saha Pond Recovery Committee held in front of the National Press Club in the city this (Friday) morning. Addressing the human chain programme, speakers said local people have long been using the Pushpa Saha Pond because of its important role in maintaining the ecological balance in a densely populated area like Old Dhaka. But, they said, the pond is going to be disappeared for lack of government’s efforts to protect the water body from grabbing and pollution. The environmental activists urged the government to take immediate steps to revive the pond by recovering it from grabbing and pollution so that the local community can use it, according to UNB.
