Protester immolates self on eve of Rahul Gandhi\\\'s visit

A Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) protester has immolated himself in Guwahati a day before Rahul Gandhi’s visit in India’s north-eastern state of Assam. Pranab Boro (45), a daily wage earner at Garchuk in Guwahati, died of his injuries at Guwahati Medical College Hospital. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. Boro was demanding land rights for 85,000 people living in and around Guwahati. The incident took place in front of Dispur Secretariat complex in the capital of Assam on Monday afternoon. Security personnel were clueless when Boro ran for about 10 metres and fell in front of the Secretariat complex main gate. Boro suffered over 90% injuries. He was taken to GMCH in a critical condition. GMCH superintendent Ramen Talukdar said Boro died at 4.20pm local time, according to news broadcast by Indian private TV channels.
