Sunday, 2 February 2014

Hundreds of BUET students hit the streets in protest after one of them was injured in a road accident at Dhaka’s Palashi intersection on Sunday. Police said Anita Tasnim, 22, a third year student of Architecture, was hit by a microbus at Palashi when she was coming to the campus by rickshaw in the morning. Students of the university rushed her to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). DMCH police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haque said Tasnim’s waist was injured. Agitated students of the top engineering university came out on the street after and smashed the microbus. Lalbagh zone’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of police Abida Sultana said demonstration by several hundred students has caused traffic snarls at the busy intersection. “We are trying to bring the situation under control,” she said.
