Protests at Shaheed Minar against Piash Karim

Several organisations staged demonstration at Central Shaheed Minar in the city on Friday. The demonstrators began gathering at the Shaheed Minar from Friday morning and stayed there till 1:00pm. Later, the ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League activists, too, went there to express solidarity with the agitators. The demonstration was held there reportedly in protest against an initiative to take Late Prof Dr Piash Karim’s body there. Opposition BNP claimed that eminent educationist Piash Karim’s family was denied permission to take his body to the Shaheed Minar as the government was against it. Piash Karim, the BRAC University teacher, a renowned debater and also a TV commentator died of a cardiac arrest at a city hospital on Oct 13, according to a news agency.
