Protests defying ban rock JnU

Thursday, 12 January 2012

Defying the administration's embargo, students of Jagannath University (JnU) staged demonstrations Wednesday for withdrawing the university's 'Development Fee', reports bdnews24.com.
The students started gathering at the university's Shaheed Minar premises boycotting classes and examinations from 9:00 am as per Tuesday's announcement. Later, they took out a procession from there.
On Tuesday, vice chancellor Dr Mesbah Uddin Ahmad said the students' demand to withdraw development fees were "irrational" and banned on-campus gatherings and processions.
The agitating students had also announced to stay away from all examinations and classes from Wednesday after their Tuesday's meeting with the vice chancellor failed.
Witnesses said that the authorities closed the main gate of the university and students were allowed in the campus only after they showed their identity cards.
They locked the entrance to the new building but the teachers broke the lock within 15 minutes and entered the building.
Proctor Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed told journalists, "Measures will be taken against those protesting despite the ban."
