Prothom Alo asked to compensate Apex worker for misreporting

The High Court Tuesday ordered a national Bangla daily to pay Tk 0.1 million in compensation to a female worker of Apex Footwear for running a 'false' report on her miscarriage at the factory's toilet in Gazipur.
The authorities of the daily Prothom Alo will have to pay compensation within one month for defaming the worker named Hamida Aktar, court sources said.
Earlier, the HC on its own motion issued a rule on the issue and asked the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur to investigate the matter and submit a report before the court.
After hearing on it, the HC bench comprising Justice Dr. Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md. Saifur Rahman passed the order.
