Prothom Alo editor, 2 others face libel suit

A Tk 2.0 billion libel suit was filed with a Dhaka court here Monday against the vernacular daily Prothom Alo editor Motiur Rahman and its two other journalists for running 'false and baseless' reports over complainant's commercial ventures since December 2012, reports UNB.
Engineer MA Rashid, director of Southpoint School and College, Dhaka, and also contractor, lodged the libel suit with the court of 4th Joint District Judge M Abu Taher.
Emerging from the court, Moniruzzaman Hawladar, counsel for the complainant, said the court fixed March 10 for admissibility hearing on the petition.
In the libel petition, the complainant accused the Prothom Alo editor and its two other journalists of tarnishing his image in public and his institutions by publishing "untrue and baseless" reports.
