FE REPORT | Tuesday, 22 March 2022

The Workers Party of Bangladesh (WP) urged the government on Monday to provide essential commodities at subsidised rates to 50 million people instead of the targeted 10 million considering the woes of the limited income group of people.
Calling upon the government to bring down the essential commodities' prices it observed that it was possible to control the spiralling prices of the essentials including rice, edible oil, lentil, salt and others by breaking the market syndicate by the government.
The left-leaning party made the calls at a rally at Purana Paltan area in the capital on the concluding day of its week-long protest against the high prices of the essential commodities.
General Secretary of WP Fazle Hossain Badsha said that Bangladesh has achieved its independence through a bloody War of Liberation and the Constitution of the country gives equal guarantees for all citizens of the country.
He alleged that the plunderers of public money and corrupted people did not care the very fundamental spirits of the Constitution.
He said that time had come to resist them (plunderers of public money and corrupt people) as they don't bother about the Constitution.
While presiding over the event the member of the party politburo Anisur Rahman Mallik demanded of the government to provide essential commodities at subsidised rate to 50 million people (lower income bracket) rather than the targeted 10 million..
The rally was moderated by the party central committee member and also Dhaka City unit general secretary Kishore Roy.
Later a procession was brought out that paraded different roads and terminate near party office at Topkhana Road in the capital.
