Pry head-teachers threaten boycott of PSC exams

The head-teachers of the government primary schools threatened on Tuesday to boycott the Primary School Certificate (PSC) exams if their demands regarding a separate pay scale, selection grade and time scale are not met, reports UNB.
Bangladesh Primary Teachers' Association (Bangladesh Prathomik Shikkhak Samity) pressed the demand at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity. Chaired by association president Md Abul Bashar, senior vice -president Jahanara Khanam, Zulfikar Ali and other leaders of the organisation took part in the discussion.
Reading out a written statement, the Association's General Secretary Anwarul Islam Tota said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had upgraded their status to grade 2 from grade 3 and enhanced the scale of government primary school head-teachers on March 9, 2014. But it is a great disappointment to teachers as the pledge is yet to be effective.
The teachers' leader also demanded filling up thousands of vacant posts of the head-teachers by promoting assistant head-teachers to the post. They also demanded reinstatement of selection grade and time scale, and autonomous pay scale for teachers and hundred per cent promotion. They sought the prime minister's attention into the matter.
He also threatened to boycott the Primary School Certificate (PSC) exams if their demands are not met by October 14.
He also announced fresh programmes to press home their demand, including two-hour work abstentions on September 19 and 20, and whole day work abstention on September 21.
