The government has finally prepared the 'Primary Teachers' Pool Policy 2014' allowing temporary recruitment against vacant posts under selective terms and conditions including payment of Tk 6000 monthly.
Earlier, the government decided to recruit nearly 15,000 assistant teachers for the government primary schools to meet the existing shortage of the teachers.
"We've completed the primary teachers' pool policy 2014 allowing the temporary recruitment of the primary teachers", senior officials at the primary and mass education ministry (PME) said.
According to the newly formulated policy, the teachers will be appointed from the candidates who already cleared the primary school recruitment test but not appointed.
They said the recruitment process of the temporary pool teachers will be started across the country soon from the merit list under primary school recruitment test that was published last year.
"The teachers will be recruited maximum for six months, however, the government can extend the duration, if required, the officials at the ministry added.
PME Secretary Kazi Akhter Hossain said a teacher will receive Tk 6,000 as monthly payment and will not be entitled to any holiday except public holidays.
"The pool teachers will lose their job in the event they remain absent forĀ seven days", he added.
He said a high powered pool management committee will be formed to supervise the appointment of the teachers.
"Upazilla Nirbahi Officer will lead the management committee incase of the appointment areas under the upazilla and the additional district administrator (education) will lead incase of the city corporation", noted.
The secretary said that the pool will automatically be dissolved after filling in vacant posts of 10 per cent leave reserve positions. The total number of teachers in the pool would not exceed 20,000, he added.
The government took the decision as many of the female teachers, who account for 60 per cent of the teachers, go on maternity leave, some go on leave for studies, training, religious rituals medical and other purposes. Many positions also go vacant because of teacher's retirement, resignation, termination of job and death.
Later, on August 14, the primary education directorate published results of the recruitment of government primary assistant teachers. The directorate recommended the appointment of 12,701 teachers and the creation of a pool of 15,019 teachers for all upazilas.
According to the concerned ministry, nearly 182,000 teachers for 37,672 government primary schools across the country.
