PSC chairman, 12 members resign

Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Sohrab Hossain and 12 other members of the constitutional body have stepped down from their posts amid a call from coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.
They submitted resignation letters to the President, PSC communications officer Matiur Rahman told the FE on Tuesday.
"We couldn't reach other members or they didn't tender resignation," he added.
PSC members Helal Uddin Ahmed and Mohammad Shafiqul Islam didn't tender their resignation until Tuesday evening, he added.
The PSC consists of total 15 members - one chairman and 14 members.
The resignation came a few days after Sarjis Alam, a coordinator of the student movement, posted on Facebook on Saturday, demanding reformation in the PSC.
The PSC members include former senior secretary Faiz Ahmed, former secretary EN Siddika Khanam, former professor of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital Dr. Uttam Kumar Saha, Zahidur Rashid, Prof Mubina Khondokar, Prof Delwar Hossain, KM Ali Azam, Md Khalilur Rahman, Prof Syed Md Golam Faruk, Md Maksudur Rahman Patwari, Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum, and Prof Pradeep Kumar Pandey.
The PSC is a constitutional body established for the purpose of recruitment to various government jobs and posts.
The agency is also involved in the decision-making process in matters such as promotion, posting, transfer, discipline and appeals of public servants.
