CHITTAGONG, Aug 11: Imported consignment of all commodities including the essential ones, can now be cleared from the port on arrival without any quality control test by the different agencies.

In this connection, Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) companies have been assigned with the task of furnishing quality control certificates along with Clean Report Finding (CRF).

Decision of Chittagong Customs House (CCH) to that effect will come into force on August 20 next.

According to the CCH sources, with the introduction of the newly devised system, the importers would be relieved from spending extra money and from delays in clearing the goods.

In accordance with the import policy ordinance, as many as 41 items of goods including sugar, edible oil used to be thoroughly examined at the port following their import.

Later, subject to obtaining the quality control certificate concerned items of goods were supposed to be cleared after taxation.

It appeared that, 7 to 15 days used to consumed in adhering to those formalities and the importers had to incur huge losses too.

CCH sources further said, with a view to lessening the sufferings of the importers the very decision had been taken and the report of the PSI would be treated as final to the Customs authority.
