Incurable cancer diseases are a major health concern around the globe. Each year, thousands of people in Bangladesh and all over the world get diagnosed with various types of cancer, which is the major cause of premature death among human being.
With a vision to provide proper medical treatment to these millions of unfortunate cancer patients in the country, Pubali Bank Limited has come forward with numerous initiatives over the time for providing funds to various charity organizations, medical institutions and individuals.
Most recently, the Bank has donated Tk. 20 million for the establishment of ENT Head and Neck Cancer Hospital, which once gets operational, would provide health services to patients with a range of cancer diseases.
Earlier, the private commercial bank also donated Tk. 100 million for the establishment of the Ahsania Mission Cancer Hospital. Works began for the establishment of the hospital in 2006 and the project is expected to be completed by next year.
Elaborating the numerous contribution made by Pubali Bank in the health sector in recent years, the Bank authority informed that back in 2007, it donated Tk. 0.5 million to Diabetic Association of Bangladesh while granting Tk. 0.3 million to the Society for the Welfare of the Autistic Children.
Earlier in June this year, the Bank donated a bus to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). Later, it also granted Tk. 0.1 million to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Unit of Sandhani, the authority said.
Over the time, the Bank has extensively granted financial assistance to a number of patients infected with Cancer and other fatal diseases or injuries.
"Pubali Bank has a tradition of extending a helping hand for the cause of the humanity since its inception," said an official of the Bank. "Health sector in particular, we believe, deserves special priority in corporate social responsibility initiatives", he added.
However, the contribution of Pubali Bank very often goes beyond the health sector. The Bank has donated extensively to various educational institutions and has come forward with assistance during the periods of natural disaster.
Earlier this year, the Bank donated Tk. 0.6 million to the Center for Development Research Bangladesh for purchasing books while it also granted Tk. 1.75 million to the Department of Development Studies in Dhaka University for the purchasing of 40 desktop computers.
In 2007, Pubali Bank donated Tk. 5.0 million for distributing C.I. sheet in the Sidr affected areas. Earlier in march this year, it donated Tk. 2.5 million to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for the family members of BDR carnage.
In the arena of sports, Pubali Bank each year donates a fixed amount of money to Bangladesh Rowing Federation. It also granted Tk. 0.1 million to Bangladesh Shooting Federation in 2008.
