Public Admn Ministry forms body to probe Rab involvement

The Public Administration Ministry has formed a 7-member probe panel to look into the alleged involvement of Rab officials in the abductions and killings of 7 people, including Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker. Additional Secretary to the Public Administration Ministry Md Shahjahan Ali Mollah will head the committee formed following a High Court order. Contacted, Senior Public Administration Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said the committee has been formed in compliance with the High Court order. On Monday, the High Court issued a suo moto rule asking the government to form a 7-member committee to investigate the allegation that Rab personnel were involved in the killing of Nazrul Islam and six other local Awami League leaders and workers. The other members of the committee include two deputy secretaries each from the Public Administration, Home and Law ministries, the senior secretary said, adding that the committee has been asked to submit its report to the Attorney General within seven days, according to UNB.
