Public hearing on roads, highways projects held

RAJSHAHI, June 09 (BSS): The Roads and Highway Department (RHD) held a public hearing on its office premises here on Thursday giving an overview of the progress of all its ongoing projects.
Sadequl Islam, Additional Chief Engineer of the RHD, responded to all the questions received from the participants consisting of contractors, members of the civil society and other stakeholders.
He told the public hearing that they have been implementing twelve development projects at a cost of Tk 46.50 billion (4,650.31 crore) to improve the existing road network in the division.
The projects are being implemented in Rajshahi, Naogaon, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Pabna and Sirajganj districts.
"We are putting efforts at our level best to complete the projects within the stipulated time," he said, adding that utmost emphasis is being given on ensuring transparency and accountability in implementing the uplift of the projects.
He also told the meeting that the process of widening the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid port highway is progressing as vehicle pressure on the road is gradually rising. "We are also planning to elevate the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway to four-lane," he added.
Superintending Engineers of the RHD Hafizur Rahman and Samiron Roy, and Executive Engineers Abdul Hakim, Sazedur Rahman, Samrat Hossain, Monsur Rahman and Sanzida Afrin also spoke.
