Public toilet facility
Wednesday, 27 May 2015
Public toilet in cities is a dire necessity. It is encouraging to note that Dhaka South City Corporation is making a move in this direction as reported in your daily on 25th May. All readers, I believe, will welcome such a worthwhile effort. All we request is that this is seriously followed up and implemented on a priority basis and does not fade away as an idea only. We congratulate the corporation authorities for coming up with this realistic proposal. We all wish that a similarĀ proposal is adopted and implemented by the Dhaka North City Corporation too.
Ideally we should have separate gents and ladies toilets with separate provisions for hand washing too. The corporation authorities can take up the matter with the petrol pumps and arrange for some regular monthly payment to the pump owners, so that they can keep the toilets clean and usable at all times. For many bus passengers, drivers and helpers of public transport vehicles, it will be very useful to have a board with diagrams and painted simple pictures showing and explaining the ways for using and flushing out the toilet after use as well as related hand washing facilities, as many of them may not be familiar with such toilets.
To motivate people on cleanliness, corporation officials should randomly visit these toilets and issue their on-the-spot written views in duplicate, one copy to be retained by the corporation authorities. Based on these reports, corporations may award small prizes to motivate the petrol pump owners and the people working there. Any violation of this should be strictly and heavily punished in the overall interest of public safety. This is 'MOST' important and deserves topmost priority.
