Punishment to killers of Lokman, Absar demanded

FE Report Representatives of Municipal Association of Bangladesh (MAB) and Bangladesh Union Parishad Forum (BUPF) Wednesday demanded punishment of the killers of Narsingdi municipality chairman Lokman Hossain and Nalua union parishad chairman of Satkania Nurul Absar, said a release. They also stressed on the role of the local government commission to be defined properly, separate budget for local government and concerted effort of organisations to strengthen and decentralize local governance system, it added. The demands came at a stakeholders' discussion on 'Strengthening and Dcentralisation of Local Government' held at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) in the city organised jointly by MAB and BUPF. Eminent urban researcher and chairperson of Centre for Urban Studies Professor Nazrul Islam and member of the parliamentary standing committee on local government Monowar Hossain Chowdhury, MP were present as the special guests on the occasion. MAB general secretary Shamim Al Raji presented the keynote paper on the occasion while MAB vice president and Bera municipality chairman Abdul Baten delivered the welcome speech. Mohammad Jahangir, executive director of CDC, Zakir Hossain, chief executive of Nagorik Udyog, Kamrul Hasan Manju, executive director, Massline Media Centre, Mohsin Ali, executive director, Wave Foun-dation, Badiul Alam Majumder, secretary of SUJON, Taleya Rahman, executive director of DemocracyWatch, Aroma Dutta, executive director, PRIP Trust, HM Nazrul Islam, senior programme officer, Danish Embassy, representatives from media, NGO and development partners were present on the occasion.
